Monday is the travel day. At the beginning of the week you will arrive ready to start the course on Tuesday morning. At the end of the week you will be resting and getting ready for the return flight. Bodrum/Milas airport has flights arriving from various UK airports including Gatwick, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Newcastle. Most charter flights to Bodrum are on a Monday – this is why we start all our courses on Tuesdays. Tickets (May – October) are between £133 and £290. The least expensive we have found recently is on Pegasus, though it looks like travelling out on Saturday and returning on Monday. There is a great variation of price throughout the season. Turkish Airlines fly twice daily to Bodrum changing at Istanbul. BA and EasyJet have cheap flights to Istanbul now and from there you can take an internal flight to Bodrum (Turkish Airlines, Onur Air, Atlasjet, Fly Air, Pegasus). For the more adventurous, British Airways has a flight to Izmir (from £212) and there is an hourly bus service from there to Bodrum (it’s a 3 hour ride). Most nationalities need a VISA for entry to Turkey, these can be purchased on arrival. (For British citizens it costs £10.) TRANSFER: From Bodrum/Milas airport to Gölköy is about 45 minutes by road. A safe and reliable taxi service runs from the airport at any hour. You will see a list with a fixed price for Gölköy village just outside the terminal exit doors (about £42). Either show the map or say the name of the village and hotel. We always try to organize people to share a taxi with other course participants. For people staying at the Ece hotel they may be able to send their car to pick them up (80 lira instead of 100 for the taxi) - please give us plenty of notice if you want this. We can’t send taxis from Gölköy because the airport taxi drivers’ union objects. During the daytime there is a ‘Havas’ airport bus service which meets Turkish Airlines flights and takes you into Bodrum (about £6). Then you would take a minibus to Gölköy. If your flight coincides roughly with a Turkish Airlines flight you can take this bus. MONEY: The current bank exchange rate is 2.45 YTL per pound sterling (the tourist rate may be less). There is an exchange office in the baggage hall. There is one cash machine in Gölköy and there are many in Türkbükü. In Bodrum banks are open till 5.30 and exchange offices (Döviz) are open till late in the peak season. Taxi drivers are happy to take foreign currency as well as Turkish money.
